Cory Hodges hat in den letzten Jahren mit dem Park am Hexenkessel in Garmisch eines der wenigen deutschen hoffnungsvollen Snowpark-Projekte umgesetzt. Nun verabschiedet er sich mit einem offenen Brief.
Es sieht aktuell nicht gerade gut aus für die deutsche Freestyle-Infrastruktur. In den letzten Jahren fanden zu viele Snowpark-Projekte wie das am Fellhorn, in Grasgehren, am Breitenberg und diesen Winter nun auch am Feldberg, ein unrühmliches Ende.
Der Park am Hexenkessel in Garmisch war dabei ein kleiner Lichtblick. Vor allem dank der engagierten Arbeit von Local Cory Hodges konnte dort ein feiner Freestyle-Park aufgebaut und gepflegt werden. Die Besucherzahlen stiegen durch die regelmäßige Pflege und Erweiterungen des Setups von 200 bis auf 70.000 Gäste im Park.
Nun ist es jedoch an der Zeit neue Aufgaben zu übernehmen für Cory. Zu diesem Anlass möchte er ein paar Worte an euch richten. Und keine Angst: zum Glück bedeutet dies nicht das Aus für den Park am Hexenkessel, noch ist ein Nachfolger da, der den Park weiterhin betreuen wird.

6 years ago, while I was still skiing actively, I would stop through Garmisch-Partenkirchen between trips and maintain the hand-built mini park we had started. We probably only had 200 people come through all season.
This season we had over 70,000 visitors. A seed was planted, watered, and the small tomato plant we expected.. grew into a massive tree.
As proud as I am of what we have built, I regret to inform you that my time has come. I will be moving on from Park am Hexenkessel to pursue my career in Mountain maintenance, and passing the torch to a long-time friend of mine, Yohan Couapel.
It was by no means an easy decision to make, but in my heart I feel that it is the correct one.
Even with the stress and sleepless nights from being the captain of the ship, I have no regrets and will miss being in the park dearly. Being able to express myself creatively, and in turn, allow people to do the same with their skiing was amazing.
So, thank you. It was a wild ride, and I am confident that Yohan will keep things running at full speed.
When you are a park shaper and it snows- you go into work to reshape your park. Every time.
I guess what I am trying to say is:
I hope you all wake up early on powder days, because I’ve got 6 years of making up to do, and I plan on doing it.
